Musings from a liberally conserative, extroverted introvert, optimistic pessimist, idealistic realist

Sitting at lunch with several of my colleagues the other day, I listened to a Hispanic friend of mine describe a concoction he’d made at home, a Michelada. A smile took over another's face as I sat perplexed wondering in my head, “How do you eat that?” After voicing the question, she said, “I knew you what you were thinking,” and giggled. My colleague explained that a Michelada was a drink made with beer and “not something you eat.” Not being one afraid to laugh at myself, I joined in the laughter and offered (in my best Espanol), “Ya’ll were thinking, this weedo1 loco thinkin’ we’re talking enchiladas.”

So, last night, drained after my sixteenth day of providing the same training on how to assess English Language Learners' progress in English (primarily Spanish speakers here in Texas), I sat down at a Mexican restaurant with an infamous bar. (“Infamous?...That's like, like, more than famous.” ~ Lucky Day, Three Amigos) Opening the drink menu and wanting to share my discovery with my colleague on Monday, I ordered myself a Michelada.

Gulp.

I quickly realized I’m more “Tex” than “Mex,” so I’m sticking with cerveza from now on…that is if I can ever taste it without thinking of Michelada.

So, curiousity killed the gato. Have YOU ever had a really disguisting drink? Save me $5.

So what exactly was in the drink other than beer?

I hesitated to look this up until someone asked...

12 oz beer
juice of 1 lemons
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
1 dash soy sauce
1 dash Tabasco® sauce
1 pinch black peppers
salt
Let's just say, I opted not to finish it!
